The official launch today of abort73.com prompted me to write on this website about my experience in a change of mind about the issue of abortion. The official Democrat position is that abortion should be “safe, legal, and rare.” We saw recently reelected California Senator Barbara Boxer “heroically” stand up for her values when she declared, “we will not go back to the days of back allies.” You can see that she is an advocate of “abortion on demand” from her voting record as reported by issues2000.org. So, how are the Democrats doing?
Not well.Is Abortion safe? No. A former abortion doctor admits that 5-10% of first trimester abortions leave behind harmful fetal tissue. Although statistics are impossible to find, it is estimated that more women have died from “safe” legal abortions in US licensed clinics in the 32 years since Roe v Wade than in the preceding 32 years in so-called “back ally” abortions. Is abortion legal? Yes. Though mostly because of the mis-information that the multi-million dollar abortion industry has perpetrated on the American people. Ask the average American which is safer, laser eye correction or an abortion, and I'd bet most will incorrectly tell you an abortion is safer. Is abortion rare? Absolutely not. Abortion is the most common surgical procedure performed in America. On average, 4000 abortions are performed every day. That can hardly constitute anything like rare. I used to be of the opinion that abortions in the first trimester should be legal. I would never recommend anyone have an abortion, but that it should remain legal. I did not see anything in the Bible specifically preventing it based on the “scientific evidence” that the fetus was not a separate human being until sometime after the first three months of pregnancy. Then I read the facts on Mike Spielman’s website and realized two important things. - The fetus has its own, separate dna. That means that it is scientifically a separate human being from the very outset.
- We do not ascribe greater rights to those who have the greater capacity to fend for themselves. We ascribe to the weaker the greater rights. Our laws are, in all other respects than this, shaped to give the greatest protection to those that have the least ability to protect themselves – especially children. Just because the child could not live outside the womb does not negate its right to its own body and its own life. Parents who abuse their children are arrested. Why? They had a responsibility to care for their children. In the same way, the mother should have a legal responsibility to care for her unborn child, even if it gets in her way or inconveniences her for – even up to nine or ten months.
Since the child is a separate human being, then all the verses in the Bible prohibiting murder, and the slaughter of innocents, come into full effect and make abortion absolutely immoral. This realization totally changed my thinking on abortion. When we look at it from this perspective, we see a horrifying specter. There is a holocaust taking place in America – legally. When I first came to this realization, I checked myself. Could it really be? Did I want to face that what I had believed was OK was, in fact, a legalized crime that was murdering millions all around me every day? I had to stop and look at myself and my attitudes. Was I really ready to say that abortion is murder? Philosophically, I know that there is no gray area when you go that far. If abortion is murder, then there are no “exceptions” such as in cases of rape, incest, or risk of the mother’s life. If it murder – it’s an all or nothing. It is worth risking the life of the mother to save the child. It is worth putting someone through emotional distress to carry a child conceived through rape or murder to save the life of another. Life is more important than emotions. Risks have to be balanced. This was a radical thing. Could I really make a stand so strong? Was the evidence really overwhelming? The more I read, the more I was convinced. The more research I did, the more something in my arrogant brain called me to stop; I didn’t really want to know the truth. But, I had to know where I stand and why. I am not one of those people who can passively take the opinion of another as my own. Once in the mire of a controversy, I have to tackle it and see it through. I am now convinced. Abortion is murder. And therefore, it follows that Christians have a duty to work for the changing of the law, through educating the American people. That is precisely what abort73.com looks to do and why I want you to visit that site and learn for yourself. Maybe you have another objection and say, “yeah, but…” Go to the website; he covers all the bases. You have to ask yourself a question first, though: “Do I really want to know the truth? “ |
