Politics
Nothing is less safe than to discuss political ideas. However, I think nothing is more important for the future of our country than for Christians to stand up and unashamedly discuss politics from the Christian world view.

President Obama is not the Anti-christ PDF Print E-mail

President Obama PrayingPresident Obama is not the Anti-christ. I could get into the doctrine of the Anti-christ and explain how most people's ideas of eschatology (study of the end times) is very confused and unBiblical in this regard, but that's not the point of this article.

The point of this article is that many of my right-wing, evangelical, fundamental, Christian friends treat President Obama as if he is the anti-christ and oppose him at every step, right or wrong. I've even had some young people ask me if I think he is the Anti-christ.

At the beginning of the school year, Sept. 8, 2009, President Obama made an address to the school children of the country. He encouraged them to work hard, stay in school, and to obey their parents and teachers. You would have thought he was organizing a Hitler Youth rally by the outcry on the right. It was a great speech, it was well timed, and it was long overdue; I hope it starts a tradition.

President Obama has the right stance on the issue of Net Neutrality, as well. John McCain and many of our right-wing friends have been sadly deluded into thinking that the Internet belongs to Corporations. No, it does not. It belongs to the people of the United States of America - our taxes paid for it's development and, for the most part, to sustain it. The Internet has been likened to a highway. Well, how would you feel about the government letting corporations who are located next to ramps decide whether visitors from out-of-state can get on or off the highway near you? Ridiculous! Futhermore, Net Neutrality is not new. The Internet was invented with Net Neutrality as a guiding principle; it has until now not needed government regulation to enforce it. Since the government gave corporations the right to provide access to the Internet, they now want to use that ability to dictate who can and cannot have access. Net Neutrality just says, "nope, you can't do that - equal access for all." Nothing wrong with that!

And there are many other examples where we should praise and encourage the President in his correct thinking and policy on several matters. But, I'm not here to praise the President, only to show that there are places where we can support him. To not support him on the things he says and does that are correct is wrong of us and reveals the malice in our own hearts.

President Obama is wrong on abortion, wrong on healthcare, wrong on the economy, wrong on Iraq, and wrong about many other things. But, that doesn't make him evil; just wrong. When we speak and behave as if everything he does is evil, we make ourselves into reactionist nay-sayers, rather than level-headed thinkers. We are no better than those on the left (including the corporate media) that love everything he says and forbare critical evaluation. For the sake of our country and our future, can we stop the thoughtless attacks? There is plenty to critisize that is legitimate without resorting to illigitimate and polarizing denunciation.

Keith Olberman has no axe and no clue PDF Print E-mail

Keith Olberman of MSNBCI was linked to this diatribe by this guy on MSNBC's website named "Keith Olberman." What a laugh. This guy starts off by saying that his comments are not about yelling (hmmm... why would he need to stipulate that?) and not about politics (not that I'm suspicious, but he then says it's not really about prop 8 ... hmmm), and that he has no axe to grind as he has no friends or relatives that are gay (really - that's weird - I thought everyone had at least 1 token gay friend - I have several).

So this commentator without a clue ... I mean axe, goes on to tell us that the state of California's decision to define marraige as between one man and one woman is "HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!"

Matt Damon is an intellectual hypocrite PDF Print E-mail

Matt DamonMatt Damon is one of my all time favorite actors (I think he's the second best working actor - Johnny Depp being the best). I eagerly watched his recent appearance on "Inside the Actor's Studio" tonight and I guess it should have been no surprise that he took a swipe at the President, but it was just so unnecessary, so uncalled for, and so stupid that I was just really disappointed by him.

Johnny Depp, for example, is a terrific actor, very talented, very bold, and has proven his abilities in a variety of edgy characters. He openly disagrees with the politics of the Republican party and has utter disdain for President Bush. That's absolutely his right and he stuck to his word that when George W Bush was elected, he left the country. That's intellectual honesty and I can tip my hat to that. I think he's completely wrong in his politics and obviously no brain trust, but he's intellectually honest about it. And, he's still a really terrific actor.

Matt Damon, on the other hand, simply used his opportunity to talk about acting to respond to the typical "Inside" question, "What turns you off?" to slam the President. Not because of a disagreement on politics, policy, philosophy of government, but on his supposed "lack of intellectual curiosity."

An open letter to Pres Bush PDF Print E-mail

cf: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-5833764.html

Mr. President:

As a Christian and an IT professional, I ask you not to hold up the implementation of the ability to register a .xxx domain name. The .xxx domain name registration will be good for our ability to filter content. This should be a first step in migrating pornography to a restricted area where "free speech" advocates can have the adult freedom to be wicked all they want, while we can restrict access by minors, homes and those that don't want to come across this trash accidentally.

Your analogy about creating a red light district on the Internet is accurate. Right now we have hookers and porn stars in our public libraries, our schools, our street corner vendors, and our homes. Creating a red light district will draw it away from the public areas and eventually we should be able to restrict it to just those areas.

Please do not hold up this important step in cleaning up the Internet and making it safe again for ourselves and our children.

Thank you,

Walt Robertson, MCSE

Safe, Legal, and Rare - oh yeah? PDF Print E-mail

The official launch today of abort73.com prompted me to write on this website about my experience in a change of mind about the issue of abortion.

The official Democrat position is that abortion should be “safe, legal, and rare.” We saw recently reelected California Senator Barbara Boxer “heroically” stand up for her values when she declared, “we will not go back to the days of back allies.” You can see that she is an advocate of “abortion on demand” from her voting record as reported by issues2000.org. So, how are the Democrats doing?
