Well, the core team that left the project called "Mambo" to the Mambo Foundation so that it can have it's Miro copyright, etc., have come up with a new name for the web site Content Management System. It is...

updated 13 September 2004 I wrote the following letter to Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family because of his strong, yet mostly uninformed, (in my opinion) stance against the .xxx top level domain.

Most of my web sites are based on Mambo, so this is indeed troubling news. But, I think it will be a positive thing once everything shakes out and the development team, which has left Mambo together, and the subordinate teams (documentation, implementation, pr, etc,) have a chance to regroup and reform around a new name and an updated product.
For me and the MyJC family, we will be going the way of the developers. Mambo is what it is today because of them and Robert Castley. Robert left the helm of Mambo over a year ago and Andrew Eddie has been leading since. Robert and Andrew are committed to Open Source and to the community of volunteers helping each other. I will be talking further with my individual customers about what the changes might mean down the road for our websites, but for now, nothing is changing in the short-run.

Mr. President:
As a Christian and an IT professional, I ask you not to hold up the implementation of the ability to register a .xxx domain name. The .xxx domain name registration will be good for our ability to filter content. This should be a first step in migrating pornography to a restricted area where "free speech" advocates can have the adult freedom to be wicked all they want, while we can restrict access by minors, homes and those that don't want to come across this trash accidentally.
Your analogy about creating a red light district on the Internet is accurate. Right now we have hookers and porn stars in our public libraries, our schools, our street corner vendors, and our homes. Creating a red light district will draw it away from the public areas and eventually we should be able to restrict it to just those areas.
Please do not hold up this important step in cleaning up the Internet and making it safe again for ourselves and our children.
Thank you,
Walt Robertson, MCSE |
