Matt Damon
Matt Damon
Matt Damon is one of my all time favorite actors (I think he's the second best working actor - Johnny Depp being the best). I eagerly watched his recent appearance on "Inside the Actor's Studio" tonight and I guess it should have been no surprise that he took a swipe at the President, but it was just so unnecessary, so uncalled for, and so stupid that I was just really disappointed by him.

Johnny Depp, for example, is a terrific actor, very talented, very bold, and has proven his abilities in a variety of edgy characters. He openly disagrees with the politics of the Republican party and has utter disdain for President Bush. That's absolutely his right and he stuck to his word that when George W Bush was elected, he left the country. That's intellectual honesty and I can tip my hat to that. I think he's completely wrong in his politics and obviously no brain trust, but he's intellectually honest about it. And, he's still a really terrific actor.

Matt Damon, on the other hand, simply used his opportunity to talk about acting to respond to the typical "Inside" question, "What turns you off?" to slam the President. Not because of a disagreement on politics, policy, philosophy of government, but on his supposed "lack of intellectual curiosity."

Let's do some checking for a second. Turns out that Matt Damon had the incredible opportunity to attend Harvard University for his undergraduate work. Does Matt have a Bachelor's degree from Harvard? No. He's - believe it or not - just 12 units short of finishing the degree. Why did he drop out? To act. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the need to make money and the opportunities afforded by his Daddy's connections, and great God given talent, were burning a hole in his pocket and he did not have the "intellectual curiosity" to do just one last semester in college to achieve the goal of going to University or college - the degree. So, against his parents wishes, he dropped out. Once he reached a great level of success in his career, did he go back and finish his degree? No, he did not have the intellectual curiosity to see what 12 more hours work would afford him.

President George W Bush, on the other hand, has a Bachelor's Degree in History from Yale University, one of the most prestigious schools - one might argue that it's every bit as prestigious as Harvard - in the United States of America. Now, did he continue at Yale for a graduate degree? No. Being intellectually curious he wanted to test the waters in the rival school and did the course work necessary to achieve a Master of Business Administration from Harvard. Did he like it? Absolutely not! He hated the snobbery that he ran into at Harvard, but he stuck it out and finished his MBA. Yes, the same University where Damon couldn't stick it out.

President George W Bush was a fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard. Has Matt Damon even got a pilot's license? I don't find any evidence that Matt Damon has done anything but act - rather boring. George W Bush was inquisitive enough to start an oil company called "Arbusto Oil" later renamed "Bush Exploration." He was later chairman and CEO of Spectrum 7 Oil. Matt Damon has never been President of anything except the Matt Damon fan club.

President Bush went on to be the first ever two term Governor of Texas and a Two Term President. President Bush saw us through the forth attack on US soil in American History.

Matt, stick to acting and leave the political commentary to those that are not intellectually dishonest. You are not a genius, you just play one in movies - that's just pretend, OK?
