Speaking in Tongues A Biblical View
You may or
may not have ever heard of this thing called Speaking in Tongues. However,
the term is used for something that happens in a lot of churches in America as well
as around the world that claim to teach the Bible. These churches often look
very similar to ours and they may even teach the same things we teach on a lot
of subjects. As you get older you are going to meet people, if you havent
already some who are Christians and some who are Christians (that is they
claim to be, but are not) who believe that they are following what Jesus
wants them to do by Speaking in Tongues. But, in actual fact, they are either
lying or have believed a lie. We generally call these people, Charismatic.
There are also other errors in the teaching of these churches, many having to do with
other spiritual gifts, such as healing, predictive prophesy, special
revelations called a word of knowledge, and etc., but we are going to just
going to focus on Speaking in Tongues today. |

The Salvation Army has elected a new General: "Commissioner Shaw Clifton has been elected to the office of General of The Salvation Army by the 2006 High Council. He will succeed General John Larsson who retires on 1 April."
The Salvation Army's top international leader is the position of "The General." The first General was William Booth, the founder, and each successive General has left their mark on The Salvation Army.
The most influential General of the century is usually agreed to have been General Eva Burrows who left a legacy of bringing The Salvation Army back into the world view as a Church Denomination (although they still refer to themselves and a "non-denominational movement" - but, it acts in all respects as a denomination). Subsequent Generals have tried to reestablish the position of the Army as an international social services agency to rival The Red Cross and other purely humanitarian non-governmental agencies (NGO).

One of the reasons I don't "blog" more often is because by the time I think of something clever or new to say about a subject, someone else has already said it, better, with more substantiation, and with letters after their name. Generally, that person is my 3rd place hero, Phil Johnson on his blog at Pyromaniac and I have very little need to add my 2c just to add them. Phil, however, has grown tired of being the point guy and taken on accomplices as of a few days ago. So far, very interesting stuff: Pyromaniacs. |
